• Medication
The Northeastern School District recognizes that parents have the responsibility for the health of their children.  The administration of prescription AND over-the-counter medication, during school hours, is permitted ONLY when failure to take such medication would jeopardize the health and safety of the child.  Due to the ever-increasing number of students requesting prescription medication to be taken during school hours, the following is required prior to dispensing any medication during the school day:
    1. Medication to be administered three times a day or less, all doses should be taken at home unless specifically ordered by a physician for use during school hours.
2 ANY medication (prescription or over-the-counter, including cough drops, sunscreen, Tylenol, ibuprofen, honey, etc), that will be taken at school will need both written parental consent and physician permission.
    3. ALL medication must be brought into school in an original container, NO EXCEPTIONS.  The nurse will not accept medication in any other type of container.  All original containers must include the student's name, name of the medication, the amount to be given, and the time or interval between doses.  When getting a prescription filled, ask the pharmacist for a second labeled container specifically for school.  Send only enough medication to be taken at school, there will be no "sharing medication" between home and school for safety purposes.  NEVER send the full prescription.
Questions regarding this policy or your child's medication needs should be directed to the school nurse.
