• Since your son/daughter will be spending about seven hours with me each week, I believe it would be nice if I take a few minutes to introduce myself and relay my expectations for my class. I am Duane Swartz and I have been teaching full time here at NHS since the fall of 1994.  I am a graduate of Hanover High School (1981), York College of Pennsylvania (1992) with a BA in Secondary Ed/Social Studies, and Penn State (2001) with a M. Ed in Teaching and Curriculum. I am the coordinator of the Honor Bus Project which began in the spring of 2010.  So far we (my student group and adult volunteers) have traveled to Washington DC taking our veteran guests, 16 times since 2011. I am also one of the co-advisers of the Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society.
I have been married (Angela) since 1989 and we have two beautiful children.  I have been fortunate to have traveled to many destinations. Yellowstone National Park in the summer of 2008 and Alaska in 2016 are two of my favorites.. I have also been to Disney World several times, to Myrtle Beach, SC numerous times and several cruises. I have also visited Las Vegas, Niagara Falls, Boston, New York, and many other places in between. In 1987 I had the opportunity to visit Moscow and Leningrad both inside the old Soviet Union.
I am a Baltimore Orioles and Dallas Cowboys fan,  although as an American patriot I have not watched much if any football due to the controversary with standing for the National Anthem.  I am a huge fan of Penn State football. If there is a game on TV I am most likely watching. I am active in my church and have directed a week at church camp for many years and often volunteer in the community with my favorite local ministry, SERVANTS Home Helps.  I love Contemporary Christian music. I have attended the Creation Festival with my home church in Hanover and continue to do so each summer.  I have many favorite bands but SKILLET, Newsboys, Petra, TFK, FF5, Building 429 are tops.   I also enjoy working around the house and doing small woodworking projects.

I absolutely love teaching and interacting with the students at NHS. I believe it is most important to establish a good repport with my students and their parents as well. Thus I want to make a pledge to be open with communication as much and as often as possible.
