Assertive Discipline/Behavior Plan

Following the rules is extremely important to ensure the safety and academic successes of all students during phyiscal education class.  By doing so, it will help to create a learning environment where all students will be able to reach their fullest potential regardless of their ability level.  To help reinforce the importance of following the rules during physical education class, I have created an assertive discipline/behavior plan.  The plan listed below includes consequences for inappropriate behavior as well as a severe clause.  The severe clause is included in this plan for students who display serious behavior issues throughout the school year.  It is my expectation that all students will be able to follow the rules at all times.

All students begin the physical education class on "Great Day." Following the rules during physical education class will earn the student the title of PE STAR.

If a student should break a rule, he or she will be required to move their clip to "Be Careful."  The student will be given a verbal WARNING regarding their behavior.  The student will still be allowed to participate in the lesson activities.

If the student breaks a rule for the second time, he or she will move their clip to "Time to Think."  As a result, the student will LOSE 5 MINUTES of class time.  During this time, the student will think about their behavior.  After five minutes, the student must explain to the teacher the rule that was broken and how they will improve on their behavior.

If a student breaks a rule for the third time, he or she will move their clip to "Get Control."  The student will LOSE 10 MINUTES of class time.  Once again, the student will have time to gain control of their behavior and think about how to follow the rules during physical education class.
